'Jeremy' (pseudonym), 18, was too anxious to get out of bed when he first arrived at Broughton House College. He now enjoys a wide range of activities, including cooking spicy food, designing city landscapes on the computer and going shopping.

Jeremy also found it difficult to maintain any level of concentration, but is now able to sit and work with a member of staff for up to 20 minutes; previously he could only tolerate this for five minutes.

Learning to use communication symbols has given Jeremy some structure to his life and his helped him to understand staff expectations. He currently has a job within College, helping to insert material into the local free newspaper which other students deliver to local residents.
