Active Learning

Our Waking Day Curriculum provides active learning throughout the day, from getting up in the morning until it's time to go to bed.

Learning doesn't stop when the last lesson ends!

Active Learning is a proven framework of education and specialist inputs within a comprehensive Waking Day Curriculum.

Experienced teachers combine with Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Clinical Psychiatrists, Psychologists and Care Service Managers to develop an individual programme for each student. Milestones are put in place and tracked. Regular progress reports highlight areas of achievement as well as areas of difficulty.

Cambian have an extensive range of learning and care inputs such as TEACCH, PECS, Makaton, Signalong,

The extended curriculum

Our schools and colleges operate an extended curriculum, providing a consistent learning experience throughout the day. Whether in the classroom, in the dining room, at leisure or out in the community, activities are planned to provide for the maximum development and nurturing of our students.

Assessment

Assessment on student progress is continually being made with evaluations of activities, targets and Individual Learning Objectives in education and care. IEPs are reviewed at six monthly reviews where care and education staff discuss in detail achievements made and set new targets. Parents are sent copies of the targets and reports to keep them informed of progress made.

Formal assessments using P-levels or National Curriculum levels are carried out annually.
